Quick soda bread..

Got back from the store and realized I forgot to get bread. A little kitchen chemistry with soda water and self rising flour and viola easy bread. 2 cups soda + 3 cups (self rising) flour. Add soda to flour slowly, but mix well (not overmix). Bake for almost an hour at 350 degrees F.) in a bread tin with cooking oil and flour coating on the insides. A must for every single person's repertoire.

3 cups flour, pinch or two of salt, 4 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder can be a substitute for self rising flour,

Tried gingerale and self rising flour, then baked at 425 degrees Fahrenheit for just less than forty minutes and like the results better.

Also of significance is that you can also make hotcakes with this same batter.  With no eggs or milk required thereby no refrigeration required, soda water pancakes make the perfect camping out breakfast.

or

Ingredients:

3 cups of whole wheat flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tbsp sugar
2 cups of your favorite soda water

Method:
Combine all the dry ingredients and combine well. Make sure the baking-powder mixes with everything else well. Now pour 2 cups of cub soda. Measure carefully, trying not to let it froth up. It’ll froth up the moment you add it to the flour mixture. Combine everything well.

Fold the dough into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 200 degree C (350 F) for 45-50 minutes till the toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Wait for the loaf to cool down a bit before you cut into it.

Boiling bacon?

Allegedly a way to get crispy bacon without being brittle. Put bacon in a frying pan and fill with enough water just to cover the bacon.

Bring the water to a boil.

Turn the heat down to medium.

When the water has boiled away, turn the heat to low.

Turn off heat. Put bacon on paper towel to drain juices.

Eat.

Legumes

Most people say you do not need to soak legumes before cooking. Unless, we are in a hurry then we usually do not. Personally the yield seems to be larger when you do pre-soak legumes such as lentils.  We like to immerse lentils in warm water from the tap with a little bit of baking soda. Cooking time is reduced, therefore you save on energy. Be also sure to drain the lentils and use fresh water for boiling.

By the say, do not leave theme there too long or they will start to ferment. That is another story.
